When shots aren’t falling….

Crossover Basketball League SE2
Game 2, Sat. 13.08.16
SUTD sports complex

There seems to be a tradition developing for the players of Entourage Basketball Inc: dismal, low-scoring, early season games. Last season, in the Jammers League, E.B.I. ‘scored’ 36 points in their third game; a loss.
This season, the team got the slump performance out of the way in game 2 of the Crossover League. Here’s a breakdown of how this feat was accomplished:

1st Quarter
Coach JJ with the luxury of 11 players at his disposal, shuffled his starting lineup, joining Guards Chi and Evan were Mike at small forward and Tolga as the center, both players making their season debuts. The group was rounded out by power forward Dave.

After hitting the first shot of the game, a 3-pointer by Evan, the starters could not buy a basket while sloppy passing lead to turnovers. Luckily, team Booze proved equally inept and the quarter ended 5:2 for E.B.I.
That was not a typo. 5:2.

2nd Quarter
The second unit proceeds to play better all-around basketball, led by a surging Nourdin who was perfect from the field (3 for 3) and supported by forward Alex plus guards Terence, Javier and Sinan in a ‘small ball’ lineup that wrecked havoc on defense, while scoring as well.

This was EntourageBBall’s best quarter of the game, their opponents conceded 14 points while only scoring one.

3rd Quarter
E.B.I. wins the quarter 10:7. Scrappy opponents play hectic on offense and more compact on D.

4th Quarter
Playmaker Javier, dazzles in this quarter with multiple assists and steals, he finished with 3 each, while EntourageBBall practice champ Sinan, 11 straight practice sessions attended, showed lots of heart hustling for rebounds and loose balls.

Forward Jax, rusty after nearly 2 months away from the team, wasn’t able to help improve the offense either.
EB.I. miss too many open shots and lose the quarter 13:10.

The low output on the offensive end overshadowed what was a stellar defensive game by Entourage Basketball Inc. The team had fifteen steals and five offensive rebounds but could not capitalise on their opponents’ mistakes, making only 2 of 11 three-pointers and half their freethrows.

Next up after a by-week, is the league’s highest scoring team, Hougang, averaging over 80 points per game. EntourageBBall will be assured that their defense is up to the task but scoring more points than the opponent is still what Basketball victories are about.
There remains lots of fine-tuning to be done.

Fantastic hustle defense allover the court. Nour and Evan with consistent scoring, Javier added playmaking with flair. More patience and assists needed on offense. Guards are too good to have a 5 assist game (2 by a PF!)

Frontcourt dc34546c84e753f093e7fcc9b4f7d138dc34546c84e753f093e7fcc9b4f7d138
Solid on the boards but non-factors on offense. Source of too many turnovers in the paint and missed shots. Can and must do better against the ever-present zone defenses local teams use.

Overall dc34546c84e753f093e7fcc9b4f7d138dc34546c84e753f093e7fcc9b4f7d138
Second-lowest scoring game in E.B.I. history, disappointing given the amount of preseason practices the team had. Focus on offense lacking and insecure passing persists. Defensive pressure even better than in game 1.
